The United Nations World Teachers’ Day – October 5 – celebrates the role teachers play in providing quality education at all levels. This enables children and adults of all ages to learn to take part in and contribute to their local community and the global society.
Last year we had a competition to select teachers who go the extra mile in their schools and in the community. They were asked to nominate themselves or be nominated. Entries included write-ups on why he/she should be the outstanding teacher with supporting documents on what distinguished the nominee. A panel of administrators, retired and serving teachers went to schools to interview both students and teachers to verify submissions.
It was agreed that part of the money received must be used for a project in the school. Mr. Hakeem Opadijo emerged as the Outstanding Teacher Oshodi 2014. He received N500,000 and a plaque and put the money to good use. The first and second runners up received N100,000 and N50,000 respectively. Nineteen (19) retiring teachers received long service award plaques and microwave ovens while 500 teachers and guests were entertained to comedy, music and dinner at the Award ceremony.
This year’s “Honour The Teachers Programme” will include Training/Motivational Talk, Competition, and the Outstanding Teachers’ Awards that will host about 750 participants comprising award nominees (and their spouses) and representatives from each of the 113 schools in Oshodi/Isolo plus dignitaries, representatives of corporate bodies and government.
The teachers deserve a break! Although education projects may seem like long term ventures, the benefits are indeed numerous, impactful and generational!!
We urge you to support this cause, Invest in the future, invest in teachers! Support this programme to impact the lives of the teachers in a meaningful way and of course enhance your CSR brand!
You’ll be glad you did!!!
